Hi

i have introduced myself on the new users post so thought i would do the same in the luso section too!

I have a fantastic non papered lusitano 19yr old mare who i imported 7 years ago. I have known her since she was 4 and is now enjoying semi retirement but still as full of life as a 4yr old. She has a huge character and makes sure her presence is known! I was thinking of breeding from her this year but decided against it in the end as I am so attached to her and due to her age never having had a foal before coupled with myself not having done it before thought I will let her live the rest of her life as a riding horse and pet! I think I did too much research into it what it boils down to and scared myself with all the possible compliactions of the older maiden mare! She will have veiga blood in her somewhere as she can be quite fiery at times but has a heart of gold like these fabulous breeds do. I did low level dressage with her and jumping which she has such a passion for.  I will soon be the proud owner of Euforica which i am ever so excited about.

Hopefully I will meet you all one day, learn as much as I can and admire your wonderful horses!

I am hoping to be able to get to the breed show this year. I assume you will be? It would be great to put names to faces! I have seen your horses on the forum and they look amazing. I love the picture of you riding your luso - she looks stunning. (and your riding position isn't as bad as you make out  Smiley)

Oh it really is.  Embarrassed She was a monster today - spent the first 10mins snorting that panic alert thing like a dragon, horrid! I was very glad of my "oh s**t" strap and held on with both hands!!! I should be taking her to the breed show, I was thinking about doing costume classes as well as English but we'll see how it goes.

She must be feeling very well to behave like that  Grin Such a shame you didn't get a picture as that would have been a good one, I bet she looked amazing! (i am sure they with technology now a days they could edit your facial expressions!!) My mare tends to dance on the spot when she gets excited - pretty to watch! Do you ride you PRE mare also? (the post i read was several years ago and she wasn't broken) Sometimes I think the breeds are quite similar but then i don't know if the old myths of the luso is that little more hot is true? I suppose like anything it must be to do with the individual breeding? I know with the luso you have the Andrade vs Veiga lines but some Veiga's are as quiet yet some are feisty so i am don't know really? Have you any views on this?
I will hopefully be coming to watch the breed show - my mare isn't registered so i will have to leave the breed shows for Euforica in a few years time! Poor maybe  Sad
Have you done the costume classes before? I bet that is quite something... If i were you, i would give both, costume and english a go.

I don't know if the larger population of Lusos would show them to be hotter than PREs but there certainly does seem to be lots of anecdotal evidence to that effect. Luso mare have the reputation of being the worst of the lot but I do wonder if that is because they aren't often ridden in Portugal and spend a lot of their time doing their own thing.

Rija doesn't have any Veiga at all but she does have most of the other lines - a bit of a Heinz 57, including:  Andrade, the National Stud and Terry. She is loopy and getting loopier though.   :Smiley

I do ride Spirit, she is very backwards of where she should be, but I won a training bursary from BAPSH so I'll be having lessons this year...PMG will soon get the pleasure of her company.  Smiley We do have a little blog on here but I'm rubbish at updating it.  She isn't neurotic but she is still a bit of a madam ... I think it must be me...

As far as costume goes, no I've not done it before. I have the saddle but nothing else so far and my mum is making a costume but I need to buy the hat etc.

That is fantastic you won a training bursary. What a great way to get your mare going. As for your mare being behind with her training, as long as you are both happy, it is all that matters!  Oh you should update your blog - how wonderful to follow horses training. I haven't stumbled across that page yet, but i am sure i will in due course!
Well done to your mum for making your costume! She should start a side business by selling them in the UK  Smiley
